After a good many hours of prep, extra-careful system backups, installation of a new firewall, and much delay due to short-staffing at our vendor's support center, we've finally exorcised the demon miscreant from our server. This little adventure, on someone's part, cost us many hours of unnecessary work and inconvenience to our users. The system is stronger after our efforts –system crackers love to say that is the good they do– but at what price? These guys were definitely "Black Hats" up to no good, sharing out files from our system and scanning others for openings. Good riddance. At any rate, restoration is within our grasp and I'm hoping I can finally head out of here before long and have a nice quiet dinner.
The weather continues dreary but we need the rain so much I don't care! In fact, the clouds are giving us a rather mild week with highs only in the 70s (F) which is just the way I like it! The clouds may hang on through Saturday night, though, and so threaten our observatory open house. What will be will be. I need a rest, anyway.
