I’ve paid good money at a “photo-sharing” site for a place to display, market, and protect my images. Their stock page templates suck. So I’m still lookin’.
I actually like the free photo blogging theme offered here, at WordPress. Though it will only display one photo per post, it does offer protection against “click and grab” abduction of my pictures. It does not offer protected galleries and some of the features of the pay site.
As usual, if you take the best features of two or more sites you’ll get something that’s really good. {sigh}
Here’s the URL of my WordPress experiment: http://guilfordphoto.wordpress.com
Nice photos James. I’d like to know if you find a good place. I’ve got a lot of photos I’d like to find a home for too. I also have another word press site that I started for photography. A couple of people use Etsy. Have you tried it?
Yes, I’ve seen Etsy and visit there once in a while. It’s a good place for sale of individual works or print issues. My paid site is at SmugMug which offers many good features including private galleries for clients, etc., but falls flat on their free site templates; they’re not very professional looking. I may just look into Etsy more seriously as I’ve a good number of matted and framed works from a 2010 show that are sitting in boxes in our basement!
Good luck – I hope you find what you are looking for.
I think it will boil down to modifying the layout on the paid site — they’ve got some very valuable features over there, just not the look I like!
