Morning Lights

While I love to photograph scenes of nature, I also like capturing moments from the world made by humans. Buildings and their interaction with their surrounding earth, sky, and light are favorites as are details from those buildings. Structures and surfaces of all ages can be wonderful. What struck my fancy last Friday were some beautifully-restored old buildings in the Grand Pacific Junction retail area of Olmsted Falls, Ohio. Clear morning light swept across surfaces of newer paint covering chipped surfaces of ancient siding. Decorated rooflines penetrated the deep, blue, cloudless sky overhead. A person could get lost in it.

Unlocked but no entry

The door is unlocked: padlock missing, hasp open. Nobody enters. There is no reason to go there. Spiders stretch thick webs. There are likely other creatures inside that space, most wanting to hide. Paint peels, revealing the colorful past, before falling away and exposing aging bare wood. The door is unlocked but is no entry.

The shadow betrays no secrets.

During Sunday’s visit to Vermilion, Ohio we explored the old downtown area of the city. The district is a wonderful assortment of frame and brick commercial structures ranging from the grand to the humble, occupied and well-kept to neglected; there is a lot of character to those buildings and I enjoyed viewing and photographing them. I’ll post at least one more image after this pair but it is a challenging picture to get just right, and I may or may not succeed.

Beatiful, quiet day but still tired…

The day dawned damp and gray. I'd had a lousy night's sleep. We took it easy this morning but did a bit of running about.

This afternoon was a field trip to the beautiful city of Hudson for a stroll around the downtown and visits to local shops. She bought some calendars at The Learned Owl Book Shop — 20 percent discount now, less as the end of the year approaches. I carried the little Canon A650 IS camera with me, just in case, and got a few nice shots. I've still got that camera for sale on Amazon.com, by the way, but may remove the listing and just keep it. I'd like to go to the Observatory tonight but I'm concerned that driving would be too risky as in falling asleep at the wheel. So I'm going to miss another rare, clear night. {sigh}
